my electricity and gas bills r higher due to a faulty furnace i rent the residence what can i do?

I have problems with my stove since December 2005. The mechanic has to solve the problem for six different times, and the stove is not fixed. I have had a significant increase on my electric / gas bill, because my stove all cycling 2 5 minutes. (W oven, gas / electric fan) My landlord is well aware of the problems and he is still in office I charge end of each month, I have to pay. Along with my normal rent. Can I increase the award for mine? Someone has all the functions relating to the owner / tenant for the acts of the State of Virginia?

The answer to your question should be in your lease if you signed one. However, you can just take the landlord to court with your PROOF that a repairman has come and the problem is not fixed and PROOF that your utility bills are higher as a result. Always make sure yor rent is paid and on time…it strengthens your case and causes the adverse if you don’t. These cases are common and people do win. So just make sur eyou have proof of EVERYTHING and then take it to court if you’ve already approached the landlord with your problems. Give the chance first to allow for it to be fixed and have proof of that too if possible, then it will also be noted that you tried everything including allowing them time to fix the problem but to no avail.

It sounds like it’s working, it’s just working too often. This will be a harder case then if the furnace hadn’t worked. In that case it’d be a clear yes you could withhold rent, but in your case I’d contact a lawyer because your landlord is going to be able to say you had a working furnace and your lawyer is going to have to be able to use the law to show if possible that it truly wasn’t working.
